My name is Suzanne Oliver. I am the founder of Heart Of a Fighter and previously served as an Aviation Mechanic’s Mate (AD) and Air Crew in the United States Navy. Heart Of A Fighter was born from a vehement desire to diminish the adversity faced by military veterans trying to find their place in the civilian labor force following retirement, injury and / or separation. As you may know, the feeling of hardship doesn’t end with making ends meet. Veterans often seek to further their education and skill development in hopes of improving their economic opportunities. All of that is done, in most cases, while still being the sole, or primary earner for the families they are just learning to be a part of again. After years, usually decades, of having elected to forgo precious time with loved ones in order to follow their calling to serve, they are now relinquishing that same amount of time, if not more, just trying to make it. Adjustment, recovery or attention for any type of challenge is suddenly nullified by the financial burden being encountered.
Heart Of A Fighter aspires to contribute to the prosperity of all military veterans regardless of gender or branch of service. We are a non-profit organization, made up of both civilian and veteran individuals, committed to ensuring that Veterans are afforded the opportunity, not only to “make it” but to THRIVE in the civilian workforce.
